Dubai Travel Guide

The antique City of Gold has become the Pearl of Middle East. Situated on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf at the Arabian Peninsula; the city of Dubai (or Dubayy) is the thriving capital of the emirate of the same name and the most developed metropolis of the UAE.

The city is divided by Dubai Creek and comprises the business district Deira, the residential zone Bur Dubai, the exclusive beach area Jumeirah and the huge ports of Port Rashid and Jebel Ali. Dubai is the fastest growing urban place in the world and has a population of roughly 1.5 million people; most of them are expatriates from different parts of the world.

Founded as a small fishing village famed for being a source of pearls, Dubai was transformed in the 19th century by the Sheikh Maktoum, emerging as the commercial hub of the east. The discovery of oil in the 20th century and continued trade permitted Dubai to develop into the business and tourism luminary that it is currently.

Taking advantages of its strategic location in the midway between the Far East and Europe, ancient trading ability, oil riches and special tax regimes; Dubai has positioned itself as one of the most important international cities of the 21st century.

Frequently described as the Venice of the Gulf, Dubai is today a major tourist destination with the best upscale shopping malls, luxury hotels, artificial islets, sunny beaches, lush green parks, world-class dining, superb golf courses, gleaming skyscrapers, glamorous cultural centers and celebrated sport and cultural events; all in the middle of the desert.

"In the race for excellence, there is no finish line"
Inspired by the seeing of its ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the multi-cultural and modern Dubai is moving ahead in vertiginous pace to achieve the top location among other world destinations, forward of other conventional favorites such as Paris, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The pursuit of fineness has resulted in the creation of great infrastructure facilities. On Dubai, even the most incredible is becoming possible. Artificial islands, building of a new shoreline, the world’s tallest buildings, deluxe commercial centers, etc. merged with the old local culture of this proud emirate.

Unlike the other emirates, revenues from oil are less than 10%. The majority of the emirate's wealth is from luxurious tourism, financial services, construction and vibrant trade. With around 6 million visitors a year, Dubai expected to reach 15 million tourists by 2010.

Coinciding with its status as a world business center, Dubai has also become a world famous spot for its innovative real estate projects and Guinness records. Nowadays, Dubai is a city of superlatives: the fastest, biggest, tallest, largest and highest. Billions of dollars are being inverted in magnificent urban projects.

Through this guide, know the splendid wonders of Dubai and enjoy the delights offered by this singular cosmopolitan city.
