The strategic location of Dubai makes it easily reachable from the majority of the principal cities in Europe, Africa and Asia, whose airlines offer scheduled direct flights.
In recent decades, due to the significant grown of the city, Dubai has converted into a major hub for air traffic in the Middle East with some of the best airports and air services of Asia.
Dubai International Airport is the principal aerodrome of the Persian Golf that provides world-class facilities with duty-free. Emirates Airlines is the local carrier that operates to more than 80 destinations.
By plane, Dubai is 4 hours from Cairo, 6 hours from Frankfurt and Paris, 7 hours from London, 8 hrs from Hong Kong, 10 hours from Tokyo and 13 hours from New York.
Dubai International Airport
Placed 5 km (3 mi) to the Southeast of city’s centre in Garhoud, Dubai International Airport (DIA) is the busiest airport in the Eastern Asia and one of the most prestigious airports in the world (ranked among the world's top 10). Currently, DIA serves a total of over 30 million passengers and above 250,000 flights per year of at least 100 airlines.
It is expected that by 2010 the airport will receive in excess of 50 million passengers on annual basis, becoming one of the busiest airports in the world. That is why the airdrome is undergoing an extensive expansion plan. A third terminal has been recently finished, dedicated only to the Emirates Airlines flights.
DIA has two main terminals that offer an incredible range of facilities increasing its global status. Those include the famous duty-free shops, car rentals, hotel reservations, cash exchange services, a health club, Internet, ATM's and banking services, a post office, a medical centre, a bar, numerous dining and entertainment facilities, tourist information and recently a spa, business and conference rooms, a 5-star hotel and an expanded duty-free store.
There are available taxis from the airport to the city (the price is above Dhs. 20/US$ 6) and public buses (Dhs. 3/US$ 1). The Dubai Metro, scheduled to be inaugurated in 2009, will have a station at DIA.

Other airports are the Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) situated in Sharjah city (half an hour by road to Dubai) and the Maktoum International (JXB) also called Dubai World Central International Airport, which is currently under construction in Jebel Ali, but that is going to be the world's largest airport (today it receives just cargo flights).
